Ah, Christmas time…the time to celebrate the birth of Jesus and the many joys this most wonderful time of the year brings…the gathering of family and friends, hot chocolate, laughter, great food, festive holiday music, fireplaces and thick, comfortable sweaters. And for some of us, lots of beautiful white snow blanketing the ground.
It’s also a time for long-held family traditions…wrapped vs. unwrapped presents under the tree, colored vs. white lights on our Christmas tree or outside bushes, “It’s a Wonderful Life” vs. “White Christmas,” ham vs. turkey for Christmas dinner. These traditions mark our own special Christmas celebration and are part of the memories we cherish about Christmas all year long. But, in the end, they are trivial compared to simply coming together and honoring “the reason for the season.”
As a nearby church so humorously has posted on its marquee: “A long ago time ago, in a Galilee far, far away…” Funny, but to the point.
